So true about parents’ evenings being off-putting for parents who had bad experiences of school. If parents feel “told off” they won’t come back. Primary schools can be almost all-female in terms of staff & this makes boys feel learning is feminine. I used to get the sixth-form boys from Tommy Rich’s to go into the nearest primary school & read with the children – thereby proving men do read!
